The importance of compliance in education construction projects

Overview of school building

At Every Trade, we have are proud to have built a reputation for prioritising safety and compliance, which is why the New South Wales Deparment of Education have chosen us for numerous projects within the education sector, from small additions to larger refurbishment projects.

Ensuring the safety of the students and staff of these educational institutions, as well as our staff and the wider community is always our top priority, which is why we believe compliance in education construction projects is so important.

Standards, Guidelines, Policies and Codes of Practice

Education construction projects involve a number of stakeholders, with competing priorities and deadlines, and often take place in busy environments. As such, there are many standards, codes and regulations that must be met to ensure the safe and timely completion of such projects, with minimal disruption to the students and staff.

These include, but are not limited to: the New South Wales Department of Education’s Educational Facilities Standards and Guidelines (EFSG); the New South Wales State Environmental Planning Policy (Educational Establishments and Child Care Facilities) 2017; SafeWork NSW codes of practice; local council regulations; the National Construction Code (NCC); and the Disability (Access to Premises – Buildings) Standards.

The team at Every Trade pride themselves on their knowledge of, adherence to, and promotion of compliance measures at every stage of our process.

Managing a construction project in a live environment

Managing a construction project in a ‘live’ environment can add considerable complexity to a project and requires cooperation from all parties involved in order for the project to reach a safe, timely and effective conclusion.

Ensuring the safety of all is a team effort, so we believe in collaborating with stakeholders and educating them on our compliance processes. We investigate all potential breaches and find timely and effective solutions to any issues that arise, all while keeping stakeholders informed at every stage.

Our commitment to safety is 100%

Every Trade Building Services proudly delivered Australia’s first-ever pumptrack in a government school. Niland School, in Western Sydney, is a School for Specific Purpose (SSP) that provides individual education programs for students with a dual diagnosis of Mild Intellectual Disability and Emotional Disability.

During project delivery, Every Trade was audited on safety by Department of Education’s Asset Management Unit and achieved an outstanding 100% score, all whilst the school and site operations were live and multiple machines were in use.

The pumptrack included a circuit of rollers, banked turns and features designed to be enjoyed safely by the students of Niland School and was of great benefit as this space was previously unused.
